Whilst in a car park, there are at 7 reasons to face out.  Remember you could reverse in, or drive through to the other side….

  1. It is easier to see whilst moving out of the space (especially in a van/truck)
  2. If your car breaks down the breakdown services can easily reach the engine bay (unless you have a Porsche)
  3. You can make a quicker get away
  4. When shopping if you reverse into a space with a path behind the trolley/buggy is on the path rather than the road!
  5. It is more economical (reversing in whilst the engine is warm, or driving straight in the space is 25x more efficient on fuel than reversing out cold)
  6. Whilst accessing the boot you are not standing in the middle of the road
  7. Items in the boot are more secure (e.g. when reversed near a wall)

It can be argued that some drivers do not reverse in because it is more difficult, this requires some technique and practice, but it’s actually quite easy once mastered.  Many drive in forward all of the time, and reverse out sometimes its because they would like to save time.  In terms of time it is about the same once mastered, but quicker on the exit!  Think of that rush out of the office car park and you are ready to go……..much quicker and safer!

Many drive forward at the supermarket in order to access the boot better, choosing a good parking spot prevents this issue, and it is far safer with the trolley/buggy and you on a path rather than in the road!
