The UK driving test is one of the most challenging driving tests in the world; making sure you are prepared and ready for you test is important because it means you will need to independently deal with hazards and difficult situations safely.

The easiest was to know if you are ready is to speak to your instructor, they should give you an indication, however normally it is wise to take a few mock tests before trying the real thing.

Mock tests are useful because they give you an idea of how the test works, usually a practical driving test includes:

  • License check (BOTH PARTS!)
  • An eye sight test (reading a number plate at 20m)
  • 2x Safety Check Questions (1 incorrect = driver/minor fault or 2 incorrect = serious fault =fail!)
  • A 35-40 minute drive including all types of road and
  • Two reversing excercises which may include left reverse (most disliked), turn in the road, bay park and parellel park
  • It may have an emergency stop (only a few test per day)

Been confident on all of the tasks and been able to perform them without help safely is the key to been a safe driver.

The examiners are looking for a safe, smooth and progressive drive whilst been in full control of the car at all times with good awareness of hazards around the vehicle.  Any high risk driving will result in an unsucessful test.
