Stoke on Trent is a great place to learn to drive, having lived in Uttoxeter, Huddersfield, rural Shropshire and Stoke on Trent I would say Stoke and its surrounding towns, villages and countryside offers a great mix for novice and Advanced Drivers alike.

When you are starting to learn how to drive, Newcastle under Lyme town offers the best mixed quiet housing estates for practicing car control, junctions, and wide variety of roundabouts.  Your instructor should vary your lesson to suit your needs, this can often depend on their skills as well as local knowledge, this is why Newcastle under Lyme one of my favourite areas to teach students.  Wolstanton is great for crossroads, Newcastle town centre great for pedestrian crossings.

The A34 and A500 also offer fantastic and varied Dual Carriageway lessons.  The A34 is riddled with busy complex roundabouts, pedestrian crossings and traffic lights.  It also has varied speed limits; we often use it for improving planning and anticipation skills.   If you plan ahead the A34 it is possible to drive without stopping, but this takes practice and good forward planning.  The A500 is a good resource for teaching and learning driving skills, the parts with national speed limits are great for anticipating slip roads, and gaining confidence at very high speeds.  Commonly the slip roads are a downfall for many students negotiating their car at the correct speed to merge in to very busy fast moving traffic, and slowing once exiting the faster moving road.  The A500 has some serious downfalls it is very poorly designed and thought out in places; this offers the chance for students to use their own initiative with careful tuition to deal with roundabouts and short difficult slip roads with confidence.

Stoke on Trent of course is made of many towns, and these are fantastic for teaching urban hazards such as dealing with pedestrians, cyclists and parked cars.  Tunstall and Longton high streets are superb for this.

For rural practice the back roads out of the city to Stone, Eccleshall, Stafford and Crewe offer some challenging but useful opportunities for safe progress and negotiating rural hazards.

We also have great access to the M6 for Motorway Tution for Novice and Advanced Drivers, this is a useful facility for all drivers, most students experience the Motorway with their instructor driving, and all are offered Motorway tuition.  This stretch is part of the busiest stretches and presents its own challenges and hazards.

Overall Stoke on Trent offers a great challenge to any driver, but can offer a sense of achievement in a safe, smooth, stable and systematic drive.
