Many of you may have seen this video doing its rounds on the web…

Driving in icy conditions particularly black ice presents its own dangers, but as you can see exiting the car whilst it is moving could be fatal just as the video shows. 

Remember the causes of a skid

  1. Brake
  2. Accelerator
  3. Steering

The issue here is the momentum the car has as it enters the housing estate and tries to lose speed.  Braking here had no effect when trying to slow the car down.  On this surface very little would help as the damage had already taken place.  Stopping the car before it enters the housing estate and very slowly entering the area could have been an option, or even better not going out at all!
